At Backlink Checker, we value your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our Chrome Extension handles data and information when you use it.

## 1. No Collection of Personal Information
Backlink Checker **does not collect, store, track, or transmit** any personally identifiable information (PII), browsing history, or user data. All operations are performed locally in your web browser.

## 2. Permissions and Data Processing
To provide its core search analysis features, the extension requests the following permissions, handled strictly as described:

- **Local Storage (`storage`):** We use Chrome's local storage API exclusively to save your UI preferences, such as your chosen theme (Light Mode or Dark Mode). This data remains inside your browser profile and is never shared.
- **Active Tab (`activeTab`) & Google Host Permissions:** The extension runs content scripts on Google Search domains (such as `google.com`, `google.com.my`, `google.com.sg`, and `google.co.id`) to identify organic search result elements, inject Domain Rating badges, and render the Comparison Panel.
- **Referring Backlinks Query:** When you click the **Fetch** button for a domain in the comparison table, the extension performs a Google search query (`"{domain}" -site:{domain}`) in the background to parse referring page URLs. This request is sent directly from your browser context. We do not store or inspect these queries.
- **Ahrefs API Connection:** The extension requests Domain Rating (DR) authority scores directly from the free public Ahrefs API endpoint (`https://api.ahrefs.com/v3/public/domain-rating-free`). This request is limited to the domains appearing on your active search results page. No identifier, IP address tracking, or query history is shared with Ahrefs or any third party.

## 3. Data Security
Because the extension does not run external databases, user registration systems, or remote tracking servers, there is no risk of remote data breaches. All data cached during your browsing session is stored locally in temporary browser memory and is discarded when the tab is closed.

## 4. Third-Party Websites
The comparison panel contains hyperlinks to external sites (such as Google search pages, competitor websites, or full Ahrefs reports). We do not control and are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of third-party websites.
